law school

Before entering law school, I always ponder what is my "calling" that I can contribute to the community. And now, as I start my journey in studying law I realize what I can possibly contribute in the community. Being a lawyer will not only be my dream but can also be an instrument in helping my Church and the community.

Anyone studying at law school, including myself, aspires to pass the bar and become a lawyer. All the years of hardships will be for the dream of having that “atty.” prefix in  my name. After law school I would like to establish a good name for myself and hopefully become a successful lawyer in my own field of expertise and have my own law firm. My school, all my professors, classmates, and the experience that I will have in my stay in the university will mold me in being a lawyer that I needed to be. The rigid training, experiences, and spiritual, mental, and personal growth will support and aid in making my aspirations and hopes in being a lawyer a reality. The different organizations that the school offers will further help and assist the students in having additional training, experiences, and learning in different fields that they are lacking. It also inspire and motivate the students to strive harder, be diligent in studying, and be a good member of the community.

One of my professors have told me that to be a good lawyer you need be able to argue on different sides of the case. To be a good lawyer you needs to possess different skills and value- which you already have or which you can develop over time. Being smart is not enough. A lawyer needs to have critical judgment, research skills, communication skills, perseverance and  be responsible. All successful lawyers have the skill to make conclusion, follow chain of events, and spot weakness and strength of the case for the benefit of their clients.

Furthermore, a lawyer needs to have integrity. Lawyers need to give all honesty to their client and conduct themselves in the best of their knowledge and discretion.  Lawyers have ethical conduct to observe and maintain in their professional and even in their personal lives. I don’t think I possessed all the quality of a lawyer and that I am still lack on some parts but I believe that the school together with my professors will help and train me in improving my skills to be a best lawyer .

The learning and knowledge that I will have from my brilliant professors is not only for me and my family’s benefit. Once I become a lawyer, I will provide legal services and assistance to my less privileged community. As a “iskolar ng bayan” I believe it is my duty to give service and give back to my country and community. If the circumstances would allow, I would like to be a professor and share the knowledge and experience that I will have if I would be a lawyer.
